Spelling is impordant.

Okay, so I do have my little pet peeves, and I also have some damn funny little quirks of my own, but one thing that I can NOT stand is poor spelling.

Yeah I know... we all do it every now and again... but for most of us, spelling mistakes are just ermmm....common mistakes.
No biggie.

Our fingers get carried away, or our brains are so busy thinking or something.
Or the cat was in the way of me seeing the keyboard, and I was overcome with the fumes from his butt.
That's my excuse anyway.

But when it comes to newspapers, advertising, pamphlets, hell... even gravestones, you would think that not only would they know better, but they would also make a more concerted effort to do it right.
Right?
Call me pedantic, but well.... it drives me right around the bend.

Don't people even proofread anymore?? Where are the editors.... and what are they doing if they're not editing?

Stuff like this drives me absolutely bonkers:

Hmmm...I wonder who this "Illegall" is... and why they're announcing that he'll be crossing the road?
Film at 11.

Ahhh... preserved for prosperity.

In memory of 'there' son.
Or there son is there.
Or something.

Where we have lots of books that can teach you how to spell....

Johnny can't read? Send him to our shcool, where we can teech him the basics of reading and riting...

3 piece chicen.
It's finger licen.

One of our local Hotel's... nothing funny here.

Yet.

If you want an Australian meal, all you have to do is enquirer.

Plus, we even have deivers to deliver it to you;

Enquirering minds want to know if you went to the shcool mentioned above.

Want one of our lovely a Rice Sishes? Hey, you've come to the right place!

Plus, we even have De luxe fried rice.

In the mood for desert?

Hey, make mine Sonoran! That's my favorite desert of all... because it's got lots of cool rock formations and sand and scorpions and stuff!

And then just this morning, I read on face book that

"Hamish takes his cloths off in hope that it'll better connect him with his friends on facebook."

I wonder which particular cloths he'll be taking off?

His wash cloths, or his cleaning cloths?

Oh crap, Hamish.... just leave your clothes on.

Please.

lmaooo! Thanks for another giggle Kate :) I'm the same with spelling, drives me nuts to see stupid mistakes in important things. I seem to see it here a lot more than I do anywhere else. The laid back, she'll be right attitude?

I have to admit that I am a horrible speller. Really really bad. Spell check is my very best friend. I consider myself intelligent and well read, I just can't spell.

~~Caroline, It's rife here - and it drives me bonkers!

~~Pam, We ALL do it, but just don't get a job as a headstone engraver, okay? ;) I would probably be lost without my spell-check, but at least some of us USE it!

I love my spell checker! But...that headstone!

You know this is one of my favourite topics, babe....but I get to give you a hard time on one mistake you made on the post! ;-)
A plural, not possesive mistake---hunt it out, chica! ;-)

~~~Katidids... Isn't that a shocker? It wuld be kind of hard to ask them to re-do it, wouldn't it? ;)
~~~Kurichan... You're just pissed that I have your Ocean Spray, now aren't you? ;)

You are hilarious. I can't spell worth a flip for reals. WHY did blogger take away the spell check?

I had to look at those signs and go over each word.....oh THERE its is...cept for school even I know how to spell school! MORONS!

Please don't ever notice my grammer either. I am just talking with a keyboard.

lol I've never noticed it anywhere else but it's so obvious here. Drives me crazy, but not much you can do about it lol. A lot of it here is that we have a fairly big asian population who can't spell worth a damn. Not all that though, plenty of kiwis who can't spell. Hell, they're even letting kids use 'text speech' in exams now!

Incorrect spelling and bad grammar, make me CRAZY! One of my pet peeves, the use of "I" instead of "me"- I hear teachers, journalists & people with doctoral degrees make this mistake ALL THE TIME. Like fingernails on a chalkboard.
I rarely read a book that does NOT have typos, proof-reading? What's that?

Believe it or not, a school superintendent (no longer) actually intimated that it was not necessary to teach our children spelling because they have spell check on their computers. No wonder this country is going to hell in a handbasket. Oh, and she also intimated that math wasn't necessry either since the kids have calculators. Kinda makes one want to cry.

My pet peeve as well! Especially for a business. We have a "moffler" shop right down the road.

Here and I thought I was the only person who noticed and was driven mad by spelling errors. A member of the family that owns our local paper is moving into a house across the street, and he'll probably move when I start spell checking his paper and delivering it to his mailbox. The "your" and "you're" thing? The "it's" vs. "its" thing? Those can drive me right over the edge, because I consider those errors right next to illiteracy. Have you ever met anyone who actually thought one kid's 5th grade student teacher was so stupid that she took up correcting said student teacher's form notes to parents and returning them to the teacher, with a copy to the school principal? That would be me. Now y'all can laugh at me, really, really loud.

And Hamid would probably be rather scary without his cloths. The world ain't full of pretty folks, if you know what I mean.

There are some folks that won't even notice that word "shcool" as they cross the street.... a lot of folks. Some just don't have good spelling skills because these skills, in my humble opinion, are in your DNA and my mother got ALL the "spelling" genes. Then they skipped a generation.
My favorite, well worn books are the Merriam-Webster dictionary and Roget's Thesaurus. I'm never far from either one. I live in fear. I have a friend that edits my worst mistakes.
So... I can't spell worth #$&%.
What do you want? BLOOD? There are far worse crimes. Life is short. My day is ruined. I think I spelled everything right but you better check....
You need to come home and smell the oak trees.

Shcool is definietly the best:) Good education level must be very important there!

Lordy Lordy!! This world is going to hell in a hand basket!! Bad spelling drives me insane as well as 'funny' spelling of things like Karls Krazy Kars...etc...

You hit the nail on the head with this one. Drives me crazy too. As mentioned by a previous commenter...your and you're is one biggie. Too many use "your" when they should be using "you're". Spell checkers usually don't catch that kind of thing. Another word I see misspelled a lot is "definitely". And using "their" incorrectly. Grrr!

I do totally understand what you mean here.

Hope all is well with you these days.

Linnea
