My hopes were toasted

See this bread?

The Old Guy found it somewhere the other day, and bought it especially for me, because he knows that I absolutely adore sourdough or authentic rye bread.
What a sweetheart my man is, eh?

The wrapper said that it was:

"A locally produced Artisian Bread.
A delightful and intriguing blend of authentic Sourdough and Rye"

Let's just say that I was less than intrigued, and far from delighted...
mainly because it had the texture and taste of just regular fluffy white bread.
And once it was toasted, it became even blander... if that's even possible.
If you closed your eyes while eating it, you would have sworn you were eating just plain ol' white Wonder Bread...
There was no hint of rye or sourdough in the flavor at all.

But it did make a pretty darn nice-looking, peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Does indeed make a nice looking sandwich...but, like you said, when you want sourdough nothing else will satisfy!

Maybe you could get some starter somewhere.,..!

What a shame. It sure is pretty though.

Oh now that is not fair, getting your mouth all ready for it and being disappointed! I've never made sourdough, but do make bread. Maybe I will have a go.

Hi Tatersmama

Our local baker does a swirled wholemeal and white loaf. They call it the mongrel!

Cheers - Joolz

AAArrrrggghhh. Left a comment... nice long one and it didn't get through the word veri! Oh dear. Now what did I say before... oh, yes, was hoping, in a rather long winded sort of a way, that your sandwich was worth it... and now am going to try and get through the word veri again. wish me luck. xxxx

Hermit Jim... I've been looking on-line for recipes, and will post whatever I find!

Pam... It does look good, and would make nice sandwiches for a party or something, but not worth the price for everyday bread.

elizabethm... I know! I had my fingers crossed for a delightful taste sensation, and then blah...

joolz... Well this is pretty mongrel-ish and it really 'is' quite good. But I had high hopes for something else...you know what I mean?

Ladybird World Mother... don't you hate that with the commenting? But I'm glad to hear that I'm in such good company when it comes to deciphering! lol!

Why is your bread so shiny? Is it real or made out of plastic?

the hunt for a decent sourdough continues...when you get that starter started, you better share! ;-)

Treehouse Chef... Fingers crossed that I can keep the writing up, because I've missed it! The bread actually looked a bit weird, didn't it?
~~~
Kurichan... The starter is bubbling away as we speak! I'll save ya some, and bring it when we go fishing!!!
~~~
Homestay Mama... It's as real as they come, but maybe the swirls and the light just make it look shiny? It did have a sort of glossy crust, but I just figured that is was egg wash or something. Hmmm?

Okay, I was wondering why it was so shiny too? I thought each slice was individually packaged or something!
