Costco is finally coming to Oz !! From what I've heard, the store in Melbourne is due to open shortly, and I've got to tell you...
I just can't wait!
Now we don't know yet, exactly what items they'll be carrying... but I've got my fingers crossed that they'll offer some American goodies, (I'm down on my knees here) along with the standard Aussie stuff.... We think.
No one knows for sure, but I'm a "the glass is half full" kind of a girl, so I have high hopes that there will be a smattering of American products in the mix somewhere!
Just imagine.... they might even offer 5 gallon buckets of Vegemite!
Or... Dr Pepper ! YEAH ! Dr Pepper !!
Hey, maybe they'll even have Crisco... which would save me the embarrassment of going to adult shops, just to fry some chicken!
Regardless of the 'nationality or origin" of the items they will be carrying, it's going to hopefully knock some sense into Woolies and Coles, who have been running an overpowering "duopoly" in the grocery store sector, for far too long.
And that's a good thing... no matter what they'll carry, or what we'll buy.
Prices WILL be cheaper!
Check out the video below... and see some beautiful Australian scenery. They did a fantastic job of catching the "flavor/flavour" and beauty of Australia.
For my Australian friends, Click >>>here <<< to see the various departments and the types of items that Costco typically carries.

That's great! We go to costco all the time, probably twice a week. I get all my canned goods there. With the size of my growing family it makes it so much cheaper. My kids love the gallon jars of pickles for 4.99, only thing is I have empty gallon jars coming out of my ears...lol
I just watched the video, what a beautiful country Australia is. And I'm even more excited for you that costco is coming. I wonder if you present your business license when you get your costco card if you will get things even cheaper, hmmm you should check that out if you haven't already. Muahs love you
The problem with these stores coming to Oz is that we over in the west don't seem to get them here. We don't even have aldi yet :(
Great news for you though :)

Narelle, Aldi is great and I love shopping there, but it would only take up one tiny corner of Costco!
Supposedly, They're got Costco's planned for most (not all tho) of the major cities in Oz and even if you have to drive for hours to get to one, the savings are more than worth it. :o)
I love being able to bulk-buy the necessities for work!
********
they've... not "they're"
*slaps forehead in embarrassment*
I kinda thought the video was a spoof....do you think it was a real ad?
Your Cristco dilemma cracks me up! :) Happy for you that Costco is coming. :)
woohoo, costco! So the Crisco thing cracks me up. It gives greasy thighs and breasts a WHOLE new meaning! LOL
I want to see a picture of your purchases, when you go!!!
I will keep my fingers crossed for Crisco and Real Bacon.
I have been banned from Sam's Club, by my husband - I could just get myself a cot and move into Sam's!
Any-hoo, we need to pay off our Sam's bill so that I can charge it up again for the "WEDDING RECEPTION"!

Hmmmm I don't know. I took it for legitimate video, but maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part. It came across to me as an introduction of Costco into Australia. But then again, maybe I should have admitted that that "glass half full" was actually Tequila. :o)

Well here's hoping that it's as good as I'm hoping it will be!
I'm gonna be dancin' around the house, if it is!

Lib, I think I'm going to look like a Japanese tourist when Costco finally opens! LOL!
(we had a group of tourists come through Safeway last week, and I L'dMAO when I saw 3 of them taking photos of each other in the women's personal care aisle!) I promise, I'll be taking photos of everything and sharing pics of all the loot!
2 of my sons live in SC, and they go to Costco every 2 months. Seems their mama taught them to buy in bulk, save money and be less aggravated than buying wimpy little containers. Gee, how could that be?
I've never been to a Costco, or Sam's Club for that matter. One of these days I may go...happy Shopping, Katie!
How Exciting! And I LOVED the video and, you know me, had to call the kids in to see it. I think it's real. It's not funny enough to be a spoof!
And I just have to say to comment from THE WIFE : hahahahahahahahahahaha!
P.S. After working for a manufacturer for years and sitting through boring meetings all over the U.S. in which the latest version of "Woolite" (or whatever) was rolled out to great fan-fair, that Costco video is a dead ringer for those promotional videos I sat through. Again, my vote: real.
Cool! My sister loves Costco!
That is great. Our town is getting one this year too. Now we won't have to drive 70 miles to get to one.
Well, being a former hick from the Maine woods, I never even HEARD of Costco until just a couple of years ago, let alone even saw one around Bangor, Maine or shopped at one. So I am not as excited as I might be. Also, being in country Victoria, I am used to not having access to the things the people in the "big smoke" get to enjoy on a regular basis (traffic jams? No, I did not say anything like that).
Anyway, I am happy for ya because I know how you miss certain American things, and I also know how excited I get when I get to have a new shopping thrill. Neil and I had sooo much fun at Ikea in Richmond last time we were in Melbourne that I was positive I could just pitch a tent and LIVE there ... kinda like Novalee Nation living at Wal-mart in "Where the Heart Is".
I think a Costco pilgrimage would be heaps of fun, but I know I will not be able to get there more than once or twice a year. :-(
Sooze
I loved reading your article about Costco. There is one 30 minutes from my house but I have never been mainly because I didn't know what types of items they offered. Thanks to your video I plan on getting a membership soon. Thats very funny about the Crisco. Just curious are you from California?
Treehouse Chef
I have something for you "at my place". Come and get it, if you want it!
YooooWhoooo! Anyone home? I see you posted this 3 days ago....H-E-L-L-O? Are you lost looking for Costco??
Our closest one is actually 3..one is to the NE=110 mile; one is to the SE=95 mile; one is to the SW=100 mile.
Hence? I don't shop there. I cannot justify paying the membership when I cannot shop but once a year or two or three. They are great stores tho. I do like Winco...closer than Costco because I don't have to buy bulk everything, which with only us two...is not necessary.
business cards do not give you things cheaper, they just give you earlier hours to shop in less crowded conditions and you get an annual 'rebate' ..so much per $$$ you spend.
Think I'll grab a coffee and hot dog in their cafeteria while you shop the first time...here you may as well figure when all is said and rang up, just just paid $10.00 per item you stuck on your cart. Heck, may be more now, as I haven't been to one in 3 years.
So, now that I got so chatty here, I'd better go watch this video you posted..
Are ya home yet? I made the coffee already, it's on the burner...
