Oh My Gosh !

Do you have any idea of how very blessed I feel? That so many of you would even offer to send me some "tastes of home" and go to so much trouble, on my behalf?

As I was reading through those comments and sweet offers of American goodies, as well as your lovely emails... I was just flabbergasted (and more than a little teary) that you gals would offer to do such a wonderful and selfless thing... for me !
I appreciate it. I really do ! For goodness sakes... I cry at toilet paper ads, so can you begin to imagine the snifflin' and snortin' that was going on around here today - all because of you?

But, the thing is ... as much as I appreciate the offers, I want you to just stop and think a minute. Yes, American goodies can be expensive here in Australia - and I do miss them, but most of them ARE available here, if I just look hard enough. Even if it means braving Adult stores !

And yes, American products can be a bit expensive to buy here... but the postage within Australia is far cheaper than sending things from the US.
It kind of gets expensive and a little unwieldy from your end... when you send a 69 cent Reese's Peanut Butter Cup - and it costs $10.00 and a ream of paperwork, for you to do it! That's just not right !

And then there's customs. I'm not sure which end the problem is often on, but food packages especially, have been known to go missing or have things rifled through. So some customs inspector somewhere probably enjoyed those chocolate Bilbies that I sent to my grandson's, year before last. And I don't want that to happen with you ...especially if you had gone to the expense and trouble to do such a kind thing for me.
Milk products, meat products... the list of banned products goes on and on ...and can change in a heart beat. Things that may have been okay a few months ago, could end up on the banned list at any time, so it's just not worth the risk.

So please, as much as I appreciate the kind thoughts, please don't worry your pretty little heads about sending me anything, Okay? Like Gloria Gaynor said : " I Will Survive" !

It's just too iffy and too expensive... and although I really appreciate the kind offers, I have to say Thank You... but please save your money.
I just can't believe how lucky I am, to have found such caring and thoughtful friends and that in itself, means more than you'll ever know !

Now... Where did I put that darn box of Kleenex?
*sniff*

You know, TM, it seems most of us just naturally want to do something and the blogging community has been so incredible to me, being such a newbie and all.

We want to send you stuff, too. I was sharing your shortage issues with my husband and the first thing he said was, "Why can't we send a case of Reese's and some Dr. Pepper? Guess we just can't imagine life without these "must have" sugar products. lol

If you care about others, it just goes against the grain not to do something.

Well, I really wanted to give you a sugar rush! But since you're so sweet anyways! ;o)

If you change your mind... you know how to reach me.
Not having bacon - it just ain't right. And Dr. Pepper...I thought you could get that everywhere. The Reese's I can live without, but not
BACON. Should we start some kind of petition? Write to our local papers...or to the Australian Tourist Board?

I have an even better idea. Just come for a visit and you can have all the Reeses and Dr. Pepper you want!

That is a great idea. You can visit all of us hopping from state to state. I live in Oregon. So you can make your plans going from west to east. Anybody in California??

LOL... My son is in California and so is Sherri. I might start with her (wink wink) and work my way East!

Well...don't end the jaunt in Oregon...keep going on up to Washington...I'm here!
Now, Ms Tater...how does customs work on sending good Ol Sam my way?? I'm sure he'd not be banned, and would be duty free, right?
Any luck on ebay in Oz for Bunn??

Tatersmama said...

Can we say "road trip", girls?

LOL... Barb, I'm not sure if customs would classify Sam as "meat" or not, but if they don't, I'll be sure to bring him along. He can play chauffeur to Sherri and I.

HI Kate, my daughter uses sugarfix.com.au to buy sweet treats from around the world. They have Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Dr Peppers. I'm not sure how the price compares to the home country. The sweets are usually here within a week. I think she is working her way through Sugar Fix's menu. Lol!

Thanks Rubies!
I had a quick look through sugarfix and had to wipe the droop from my chin - because everything looked soooo good!
Even the stuff i didn't like before, looked absolutely yummy!
I'll have a good browse tomorrow morning, check their shipping prices and I'll let you know how it goes. :o)

Kate--before you order anything that requires shipping charges, wait til you see what our local lolly shop carries...just about all of that stuff, as they get it from USA Foods, I believe, and the prices are the same if not a bit cheaper...I sure enjoyed my Dr Pepper on Sunday! :-P
