I grew up in California and summer wildfires were an unfortunate way of life... but I just can't get my mind wrapped around the complete devastation here in Victoria right now.
It's just incomprehensible to me.
Here's the latest news - which unfortunately isn't the end of it. They're now estimating that closer to 180-200 people will be discovered to have lost their lives in these horrific fires.
Victoria bushfires claim 108 lives
God have mercy on all their souls.

I'm having trouble coming to terms with what's going on in the world right now - financial and personal devastation. I am so so sad about the fires in Victoria and prayers seem so futile.
Have been thinking about you lots this weekend TM - are you 'safe' from these fires, not sure whereabouts you are exactly.
Hubby suggests I take some time out this week just to find refuge and solice in God - I think I need to do that. The bushfire devastation certainly puts my issues into perspective.
How tragic. Words don't seem sufficient for what's happening. I can't even imagine how anyone could do something like this and create mass murder because that's what it is. And those are just the ones who have died. So many more will suffer with injury and loss.
Man's potential for evil is truly incomprehensible. Thank God there are so many more who are truly caring, loving individuals. Those poor people will need so many of them now.
Thank you for letting us know because I keep the television on so rarely. Too much bad news that they pontificate on endlessly. THIS is something people NEED to know so they can pray.
I haven't watched tv in days, nor seen a newspaper...so I'm totally in the dark about this.
Have these people died, because they were trapped...smoke inhallation?
You aren't anywhere near this are you? I will have to start "Googling" and find a map of Australia...and more information on these bush fires.
Please stay safe.
Love you KatieTatie
Whoa, not good news about the fires. I checked your link, so as I understand it these fires were started by someone somewhere? That is too horrible. Where are you in relation to the fires? I hope you are safe.
On the bright side, I am glad you joined the posse to set Percy free.
Tatersmama,
You don't live near the area of the fires, do you? I don't sense that kind of alarm in your posts, so I think you must be OK. But for all those who have needlessly lost their lives--I feel so sad!
Somehow you, your daycare children and the bush fires all got tangled up in my dreams this morning and I slept, well actually dreamt, right through my alarm--and missed church! Mama Mia!!
I haven't the words to adequately express how devastating this tragedy is. I hope and pray for a quiet, safe night for all those in your country.
Thank you for the info. I have been concerned for you and your family. I am glad you know that you are alright. I will continue to pray.
I to am having trouble with my feelings of helplessness to my fellow Australians. It is so hard to get my head around. I have put a post on my blog as are so many of us with our thoughts, prayers, support & love.
I know how you feal..useless is how I am fealing at the moment.Praying is all we we can do.
Keep safe..
So many others here have expressed better what I'm thinking now... my prayers are with all there.
So so awful... all our prayers are with you guys now. Be safe. X
I'm not anywhere near the fires at all, although they have been to the north, south, east and west of us.
It's so sad to think of so very many people losing their homes, possesions and loved ones though.
The death toll just keeps climbing and it's almost too much to comprehend.
