Sunday Market Day

Ahhhh... It was so good to have the weekend off and we even managed to get out of the house yesterday! We went to the farmers market at Talbot and man... it was just a perfect day for it.
*big smiles*
See, Colin is always attempting to get me out of the house, but I'm usually so tired and worn out from working 24 hours a day for 12 days in a row, that if I have my druthers... I'd druther stay in my jammies all day and just vegetate and read a book or two.

But yesterday was good. Real good. It was just a real relaxing, no-pressure kind of day and I guess I needed it more than I realized.

There weren't many people around, so it was rather a quiet, laid-back day. And because numbers were down, there wasn't any jostling for the free taste tests! Apples and nectarines and licorice and wines and sauces and cheeses and homemade Hungarian pastries... Oh my!

I ended up getting 2 large pepper plants from here (at the far end of the table) and since it was such a quiet day, I ended up getting both plants for the price of one! And both plants are just covered in peppers! Wooo Hooo!
( I think that if you click the pics, you can enlarge them. I'm not sure though)

Eric the Red.
and wow... was this guy good! He kept us entertained for almost half an hour and I laughed until my stomach hurt. I thought that little guy in front of the unicycle was going to poke that cane through the spokes, but he didn't... although I think that Eric was seriously regretting that he hadn't picked a taller assistant from the crowd!
Cute butt too.
Eric, I mean.
Not the kid.

Lee Lou Belle with her little dog Louie, taking a bit of a break from her Egyptian Perfume Bottle booth. (try sayin' that 3 times fast!!)
So here I am, back at work this morning... but I feel totally rested and relaxed for a change!

I'm glad you had a relaxing weekend. I leave going to the swap meets and Farmers Markets to Miguel and the kids. There always so crowded. Hell I can't even go to Wal-Mart without wanting to run people over with the shopping cart who won't get out of the way, even after I ask politely. I'm turning out to be my Dad the Hermit :)

Aha... Sherri, you and I are more alike than I thought!! I'm a regular Harriet the Hermit myself!
But the market was almost empty yesterday, so I didn't end up getting stressed or pissed off.

Oh, I do love farmer's markets.
I clicked on your pictures and they came up nice and large. I saw the "straberries" sign in the first pic and my mouth started watering.
Also in that first pic are 'gourd-like-thingys' hanging from the blue tent in the middle. It looks like they have faces painted on them. What are they?

Homestay Mama, I don't have a clue what they are. Up close, they just looked like stuffed socks with faces painted on them... and they were grubby! I just couldn't figure why they were there in the first place! They weren't very appetising. ;-(
And see, the pics that I took enlarged.... REALLY enlarged! LOL!

I'm so glad you had a good time and got some MUCH deserved R&R.

I LOVE Farmer's Mkts. Almost every Saturday you can find me at one buying organic veggies, fruits, and raw milk. It's all we have drunk for two years now. Good stuff and no IBS symptoms with it. Also fixed my tooth pain. Who knew?

It's nice to hear that you are in such good spirits...amazing what a weekend just for you can do, eh? :) Sophie says hi!

Your pictures are good ones. Gave me the feeling I was there too. I love farmers markets. Everything is so much fresher than in the regular market. Glad you had a fun time......

Hi Katie
I'm glad you had a lovely day, the only thing wrong with markets are they start way too early in the day for me.
Yesterday we had a meeting in town to let us know what to do incase of fires so that way my day out.

Robynn, There wasn't much in the way of produce, mainly because of the extreme heat and fires I guess.
I have a guy in Snake Valley where I can get raw milk, but the local store carries organic milk and it's pretty darn good - it helped with my teeth too!

Andrea, I just wish I could get out like you and Sophie... now THAT would be heavenly!!

Kathy, I was good to just get out and stretch the old legs but I was disappointed that there weren't many fresh veggies and we can blame that on the heat. :-(

Irene, You're telling ME that you're not a morning person??? LOL!

Homestay Mama - I think they are to scare the birds away ... or is it friends.
I'm planning a farmers market outing - see I have to plan them. Third Saturday of the month - Bridge St Market. I'm gonna get there in March. The ads have tempted me ... they have the cutest little cupcakes! And chocolate - I lurve chocolate. Oh, and I'll probably try to get a farmer while I'm there.

I am so glad you went out for the day. I am just like you after workig hard I would rather stay in the cave and read a book.

I had the oppurtunity to go to Webster, a giant farmers/flea market today, besides the dogs have fleas and I don't need any more! Just kidding, I use Advantage although that hasn't been working to well lately. Decided to stay home and wash clothes. Now I wish I had gone since the weather was so BEAUTIFUL. So very glad you had a pleasant weekend. That big tree looks like a giant head of broccoli! Rachel Ray had a scientist from Australia on her show today, DR Robert Bell. He has a kids show down there and boy was he good! Do you know of him?

Rubies, It just seems that the market days conflict with my weekends off and I can never get there on the right day! Good luck on finding yourself a farmer! There were heaps of cute ones around Talbot, so maybe it would be worth the drive, eh? We're hoping for Gisbourne next. ;-) (did I spell that right?)

TC, I KNOW! I would rather read than breath, but I guess it IS good to get out of the house occasionally. I usually have to be pulled kicking and screaming though! - kind of like grocery shopping!!

Sassy Dog, I've never heard of the guy! But then again, we watch Playscool around here and very little else. I do like Dr. Karl though and we have all his books.
I mean, what kid doesn't want to know about fart bubbles and other disgusting stuff? LOL!

It looks like y'all had a lot of fun! I love going to the farmer's market. Can't wait until it's warm and they open back up.

Ohhh Louie, the pup, is so cute! ...and look at momma's proud smile looking down on her pup. Say... do you, by any chance, know what kind of tree that is in the second pic. It's the BIG tree behind the pepper plant table. It is gorgeous! ...I'm a tree nut (among other sorts).

Tatersmama said...

Nancy, I love 'em too and there's usually a local one going most weekends, but I always seem to have to work when the good ones are on. *sob*

Bz, I don't have a clue what the tree is, but I'll copy the pic and take it to our local nursery, how's that? It IS a beautiful tree. :-)
And Louie? Looks are deceiving! That is one nassssssty little "peeing on your leg" dog!!

Bz said...

Please don't make a special trip or go out of your way... BUT, if you HAPPEN to find out, I'd be curious.
Funny, re: the 'cute' pup... oooh, someone needs to take that pup a notch down if he's tinkling on one's leg- yikes.
